Hello CCM group! My first post as newbie member.
I got the SR last year and after running in an first service reported it being a bit Smokey. During the first trip to Bulgaria and Greece i ended up topping up my oil a number of times. On return to UK an factory which originally tried to blame my knackered piston on the fuel the engine was changed under warranty. This is the husky engine. This replacement engine i fear maybe going the same way. Has anybody else experienced This?

I could understand the factory blaming fuel grade if your bike was meant to run on super unleaded as lower grades would cause damage over time / mileage due to engine knock. (pre ignition) .
Pardon me for asking but I thought the GP450 runs the engine from the BMW G450X.
keep the faith

BMW owned Husky at the time, so used in all makes. Kymco manufactured it and laterly supplied CCM.

They are heavy breathers, not much oil and its working hard. Checking/Topping up daily is important especiaslly for long trips.
There are also breather kits available to reroute the crankcase breather from air filter to the head, so oil lossed is going back into the system, rather than getting burnt via air filter/intake.

Hi Scoody & welcome to the site, I'm sorry to hear that you seem to be used as research & development with this engine, also a bit sad to hear that CCM tried shifting responsibility for this outsourced engine by saying you have used poor fuel as the ECU controlling the ignition/fuel injection should sort this out, & you can only use whats available, Ive had my suspicions about this motor from the very beginning as I believe its a Kymco motor, a company renowned for cost cutting & poor production/research & development, also if the piston is to blame then that suggests bad metalogy or machining for the piston ring gaps . But most of all CCM should be ashamed of themselves for trying to "pass the buck" after all that bike cost a lot & you have been led to believe its a good un, please keep us updated with your opinions about this bike as it makes a change from the old Rotax/Suzuki lumps here & best of luck from me..

I think Husky were owned by the same group as M.V Agusta as when I bought parts for my Husky it had stickers with M.V Agusta on BMW had some shares in the group though

what fuel is specified for the gp450 and do you know if the engine management system has a knock sensor. The compression is quite high on these bikes so maybe they do suffer with low grade fuel. What sort of damage was there to the piston?
