Hello All:

I am Teamvisegrip here and I thought I would introduce myself before I get to the questions. I live in Superior Wisconsin, USA. I currently have a diverse collection of 9 bikes. If anyone is interested to see them I can ad a link to my Photobucket page. Been riding since 1970. After years on the street I am liking the off road riding better. No cell phone drivers. I have had a number of different candidates for my keeper enduro over the years. The longest surviving member has been a 1971 CZ 175 Trail. Not a fast machine but slow and reliable like me. I just love it as it is so different. I LOVE DIFFERENT! I am working on a stripped down 1972 Sachs 125 but it is rough and a stalled project at this time.

I just finished a 1991 Yamaha XT350. Overhauled the motor and did a little work to make it faster with impressive gains. LOVE the power and the bike. But another guy loves it more and offered me a deal I could not refuse! LOL!

Now to the questions

QUESTION #1
I am looking at a CCM 604 Sport with 9,000 miles and well serviced with new starter clutch and belt. The guy took very good care of it. Starts and runs great! He is asking $3000 USD. Is that a good price for this bike.

QUESTION #2
This bike has what looks like side bag mounts on it? I cannot find any reference to this as an option. There are no bags that go with it but I would like to know what bags will fit on it. It looks like a factory rack, not home made. I am sure you would like a picture but since I do not have the bike yet I cannot do this.

QUESTION #3
I have read through the forms about boosting the power and replacing the ignition box with great interest. I am sure that I will do the ignition box. If there is a group of people getting ready to buy in bulk let me know.

I am on a ship working as Chief right now. One of my ports is Southampton. I will be there in a couple of days. Is there a parts dealer in Southampton?

Thanks for all the info and I hope to hear all your thoughts on this bike's value before I buy. Or even better what I need to look for.

No options that I know of but there is a small loop on the frame just by the airbox which is an exhaust guard, it has two holes in it but nothing is meant to mount there.

The standard rack has a couple of pillion grab handles and some bungee hooks.

Thanks for the info already.

Iahauteur... your picture helps some but the pictures on the ad for the bike shows a different set-up. Maybe aftermarket item.

To see a couple of pictures of the bike from the ad see the link to my Photo Bucket Page.

Still interested if $3000 USD is a good deal for the bike.

The central part of that rack looks identical to the CCM one so perhaps it was a rarely seen factory or US only option, or someone has done a very professional job of adapting it.
I am not sure that anyone here will know what is a good US price is.

Looks like the rack has been modified to take soft panniers, $3000 is equivelent to approx £2200 which is I would say the top end, but as its just had a new sprag and belt (£175ish) with out labour or gasket, and does look clean, Does it have a decomp fitted, if not always best to reach under the tank and flip it forward before hitting the starter, takes the load of the sprag and it lasts longer, also stop using decomp as sometime if stopped on the key on comp stroke engine can go backwards also killing the sprag,

If you have the money and are happy with it go for it, spares should be easy to get over there as these engines are raced
If it aint sharp I can play with it

Hey Monty:

As I said I am on a ship going to Southampton right now. We pull in tomorrow @ 4pm. Due to slow speed running restrictions I have to man the engine room from 8pm to 8am. Chiefs do not usually do this but I like to keep the hard working engineers and oilers fresh and on days. So I have a lot of time to read through all the info here.

I read all about the decomp and hooking up the lever and even where to get one. Thanks for the heads up though! If I get the bike I will definitely get it. I only saw the bracket for sale... is there a complete kit? I am a pretty good machinist and fabricator but the Decomp for sale was stainless and well worth the cash. Just got to work a deal to have it shipped to the agent in Southampton. Maybe save some cash on shipping I hope.

There was a Do and Don'ts topic I read last night. I will need to find it again and copy the info.

There is a wealth of info on this sight. So tonight I will continue to surf through it all.

Already down loaded all the PDFs for the engine. I was going to buy the hard copy off of eBay! Do not have to now. NICE!

I have contacted the seller of the bike. If it is still for sale when I get off in December I will make the purchase. With the cash I get for the Yamaha it will almost cover the cost of the CCM. Win win for me.

Thanks for all the info I will see if I can work the price down a little bit.

I read that the bikes used to come with 2 sets of wheels? The tires on the bike right now are more for the street. It would be really nice to have a second set for the mud and trails. I plan to get with the Trail Riding Group in my area with this.

Again thanks for all the help already!

I can really tell from the photo's whether it has 2 17" wheels or 18"and 21", if the bike has 17" then it has the wrong disc on the front, 21" wheel will have a 260mm disc and the 17" should have a 320mm disc, second set of wheels was a option, either supermoto or off road,

you will also need a different caliper bracket for the larger disc,

Contact sportax racing, He does all the engine spares, and some others. Think he does a decomp kit, Haines sell the lever, venhill sell a cable the bracket can be made easily

Looks like 21” and 18”...too skinny for 17’s.... id say someone has modded the standard rack for soft panniers.

I am very sad to report the guy selling the CCM would not wait for me to get home and sold it today.

Very upsetting for me as I was so excited to get it. I will need to look and see if another pops up but I doubt it.

Next option is to buy one here and put it on the ship and pay the cost when I get to the States. I will need to look into it.

Last question for you guys here?

What would it cost to get a low miles CCM 604 in England? Or comparable model? Once I have a price I will know what it will cost to get it through customs in the States.

Thanks for all the info. It has been very informative.

surely if you wil be transporting it by the boat you work on, no probs. then what you tell customs USA end is up to you, the seller will not worry if the bill of sale says £800 or whatever you dream up.

As Neil says for £2k you should get a good one over here,

I would look into getting it registered in the states as the 604 is rotax .the 644 is a freewind[Suzuki] engine bike but you would know more about that side of it than us.
