Hi all been out today making the most of the warm weather sort of trying to get the carb srt up, getting there, but I thought I would check that my new battery was charging whist engine running and didnt get any increase in voltage.

Can anyone tell me where the best place to start is?

Cheers

Mark

Just been out to garage and cleaned all terminals and checked charge, it was 12.1 with ignition off, turned on and fired her up and it went up to 13.0, does this sound ok?

Also should the lights get brighter as you rev?

Cheers so much again

Is there a way I can test the reg, and also do you know the best place to get a new one?

What Rpm were you measuring the voltage at? You got to have more then 2,700 rpm to get the alternator pushing out the right amount

Not 100% sure, the bike was moving backwards on the side stand, will check again tommorow, too many fumes in the garage at the moment..

With the engine running you should be getting around 13.8 volts.
Have you tried charging the battery, if so what was the final charge voltage and does it hold it.
keep the faith

Battery is brand new Motobatt, I have it on an Optimate when in the garage, when I come back after a ride it reads 12.1v, have had it on charge over night and will check later today revving her up fully to see what reading I get.

Checked battery after charging on Optimate overnight 12.6v turned ignition on dropped to 12.2v started her up went up to 13v but revving hard made no difference stayed at 13v.

Do you think I need a new regulator/rectifier guys?

Cheers

its a possibility reg/rec could be dodgy, also the windings from your alternator might not be kicking out enough, if you are not confident enough to do the checks on the reg/rec yourself with a decent multimeter, then I would suggest going to a garage where someone might take pity on you & for them with the equipment in house easy too

Been out for a blast for about 30 mins lights on, checked battery voltage when got home and read 12.1v does this mean its charging a little?

Had a real blast just love this bike and forgot how much fun they are, after it got put away 8 or so years ago.

cheers so much again
