Right. Collected my bike today from a member on here. Not sure on his username. But baisically the bike looses power in high revs, it rides fine up untill this point but looses power in all gears and idles really high. However a quick tug on the decomp lever on the head solves it. Its happend twice and only collected this morning. Its a little un nearving because loosing power is almost as bad as snatching at the front brake! Any ideas folks. Cant believe im having issues already 😣 |

decomp lever/cable may be too tight and opening the valves a tad, check the carb inlet rubber, may be split or carb not fitted home correctly, do a comp check wet and dry, it will tell you if the rings or the valves are letting by, valves have been known to loose their seating, not a big prob as head comes of easily |

The decomp lever is still on the head. I have to reach through to pull it. Could this still be a poorly adjusted cable? |

doubt it. I assumed it had a cable and lever fitted. check the belt tension, and also that it is timed up correctly, plus the other bits I mentioned. |

remove the plug, then screw in a compression tester, you should get above 150psi, if lower then squirt some oil down the bore and test again, if the same psi as before your valve seats are worn, if psi goes up to over 150 psi then your rings/bore are worn, the oil will seal the rings for a bit. valve clearances need to be checked with a cold engine and piston locked at TDC, manual says 2 thou inlet and exhaust, which Gary at Sportax says is ok, I prefer to set mine at 4thou in/6thou ex, providing your settings are within 2-4thou in and 2-6thou ex your OK where in the country are you? if Essex bring it round Edited by Monty, Sep 12 2016, 05:51 PM.

Mony this is my old bike. I only used it to go to work on for a journey of 5 miles, never had these problems what so ever. You mentioned timing,I had the rest engine case off to respray the case with the coils in do you think i could have put the coils back in,in the wrong position to cause this issue? Thanks |

I doubt it, the stator or coils can only go back one way due to the mounting screws, |

As Monty mentioned above.. Id check valve clearances first and also check the decompressor mechanism as ive seen some where the oblong block comes out of its seat on the shaft... Make sure carb is clean and no air leaks anywhere.. |

Just been checking for leaks. Cant find anything. Rubber boots look in good nick. Spoken to chris who says i may need to check main jet and needle position. But that wouldnt explain why a tug on the decomp lever would fix it. Gotta work down south tomorrow then working untill next monday so not even going to get a chance to look at it now. |

Still not had chamce to look at this. Got a pal coming round monday or tuesday to help me with valve clearences. After that its gonna be float height. If not..... a match my pissing speedo is broken too. Ordered a new drive, red one for sm wheels but it still over reads. 45mph is more like 30 mph. I dread to think what speeds it will think im doing when i get dirt wheels 😂 |

you may have a mag wheel speedo head, they are different to the spoked wheeled ones, should be a number on the side of it, let me know as I have a list somewhere. |
