Help, my 644 ds was running rough since the day I picked it up ,it goes fine all the way up to about 3/4 throttle and then cuts in and out and splutters . it's been in a garage since June and mechanics mate has a bike he is breaking so everything, ( Ecu equivalent , stat plate , carb and lots more) has been swapped and nothing seems to make it any better, the last thing we can think of is the loom ( the breaking bike had already sold this) but I don't want to buy a new one unless necessary . I'm at my wits end with the thing , any clues any one?

its always good to start at the begining, so ..

carb set up: what size jets do you have and what notch is the needle on.
has the TPS/gubbins been done?

air box: is the lid on or off

zorst: is it the standard remus or an after market

im gonna say it sounds like TPS set up .. but someone with more knowledge will ask these Qs. anyway so best get them out of the way :)

As Jonny said. whats the current set up

Does the bike have a rev counter fitted? these have been known to cause this, as it takes its pick up from the same wire that feeds the coil

so tell us

what mains and pilots are fitted.

needle position

type of exhaust, has the cat been removed if fitted

with or without airbox lid

Has the TPS been set up correctly

throttle lift gubbins been removed and correct holes blocked

Check and clean fuel filter( small white cone in the metal pipe attached to the tap)

any holes in carb diaphrams

type of plug, when last changed.

after a ride when it plays up, what colour is the plug?

If it aint sharp I can play with it

Amen to all of the above, and you have cleaned the carb out & given her some fresh juice havent you, petrol has a surprisingly short shelf life what with all the emission friendly additives they put in it these days ( Mates 08 blade laid up for a couple of mths & the petrol turned to jizz,Honda relieved him of £400 to strip everything down & make good ). My ds was doing exactly the same as yours Gav600 ,set tps, needles up a notch, bigger main jets, & removed comedy fuel filter gauze cured mine. Sweet all the way to the stops now ;)

Cheers , it's not the fuel as it been in bits and being supplied direct from the can, it's running standard everything, I don't think it's the carb jets/ needle as we swapped a carb over from the donor bike that was running fine before its 'off'. Ccm suggested the rev counter but it hasn't got one. Il pass the rest on to the garage ( they are crosser specialist that set up all sorts of off road/ enduro bikes for racing)

Thanks again

cant find the pic I want, but this will suffice

the metal pipe the filter is fitted too, you may find a small white cone filter fitted inside. this gets blocked. check it first

im guessing you try'd the coil from the donor bike then? if its standard everything does the air box have a lid as you didnt mention it.

.. does it happen without fail at the same point in the rev range?

could also be float height, runs out of fuel at high revs.

Easy to check, fit clear tube to the drain spout on carb bowl, hold upwards and slacken the drain screw,

Fuel will fill the tube and settle hopefully at the same height as the top of the float bowl.

If lower the floats need to be adjusted, also if higher
