I hate petrol taps! My carbs have been stripped and rebuilt, new jets etc, cleaned up the needle but it still fills my sump with petrol, aaarrggghhhhhh its doing my head in!

Are you turning the taps of?

If not, does your bike lean over on the stand a lot,

My theory is if the bike leans over too much, the floats do not lift the float needle to stop flow of fuel into carb.

Either start turning the taps of when parked, or make your stand a bit longer so it stands more upright,

Just a thought
If it aint sharp I can play with it

I'm used to mainstream bikes but I like your theory, It's entirely possible.
I've not got used to the tap and keep putting it in the wrong location, as per my long lost honda

That is exactly what mine used to do. Since I rewelded my stand (pics on here somewhere), it's not done it again.

I wondered why, but thanks to Monty - now I know :worthy:

maybe im just lucky but i never turned my taps off on my first 644ds, i think itwas due to using the trail stand with the supermoto wheels on or the trail wheels on. i felt the bike leaned too far over with the supermoto stand on it . so maybe the angle theory that monty has is right

or i was just lucky

Mines always on a block of wood so it stands more upright, gives a bit more room in the shed as it takes up less space :worthy:

I'm gonna change the oil and filter again and mark up the tap, this never happened on old bikes, it just pissed out the overflow instead, at least you knew the tap was open, I've even got a label on the tank to remind me as well, I'll put a solenoid valve on just to spite it

Just wonderin if its worth alterin the float a bit, a bit of trial an error to make sure it shuts off without affectin performance.

Its gettin into a turnin off the tap routine thats hard work, i can never remember which way the firkin taps go, an ive got 2 on mine just to make it more awkward
Husaberg FS650 with shiny wheels and a slight oil leak
Honda CRM 250 Mk3 now with supermoto wheels but need some spacers
Honda CRM 250 Mk2 in need of a clean

I know where you're coming from, this is how I've done it, can't remember which way it goes and now I got oil and filter to do again, I should ride more but don't always have the chance, annoying it definately is
