I only get this now and again, luckily, but my best biking mate got his bad and ended up having surgery ..... it got worse ..... more surgery ..... even worse, at 40 he was hobbling around hunched up and pumped full of morphine .... he got worse still and ended up being retired on medical grounds and moved into sheltered accommodation

My son in law has broken his back twice, falling out of trees in his job as a tree surgeon ..... he had lots of surgery including flying to Ireland twice for it and it's no better, he relies on stretching and hanging by his hands from the door jamb to align his spine .....

His advice to anyone with back problems to regard surgery as an absolute last resort

Tens machines are actually electrical drugs, I've been involved with these for 15 yrs, unless you put the pad in exactly the right place, at best it won't work, at worst it'll make it worse

If you're going to use one then see your doctor, he should be able to advise and might refer you to a back clinic where they'll look at it properly

I'm surrounded by friends and family, including my Dad, that have broken their backs and now use 'alternative medicine' as their way of dealing with this

I've had acupuncture after I ripped my right shoulder up and it helped speed things up

I also see a lady who practices the Mc Timoney technique to align me up after an 'off', http://www.mctimoneychiropractic.org/ ..... so far so good

Expect to pay £40 a session for Mc Timoney but I guarantee at least 40%+ will be sorted by the end of 6 sessions .... expensive but how do you value pain?

Good Luck :ph43r:

Sorry to hear about your back mate, its got to be the worst pain, I had mine fixed with one of these machines www.backcare.org only went for 4 visits.
I tried loads of other treatments and spent a fortune in process everyone seems to have a different fix depending on there problem. I had an MRI scan which confirmed a prolapsed disc same pain as your describing the NHS offered me an operation with a 60% success rate I decide to give it a miss. it still plays up from time to time but I just try not to over do it. I would have treatment again if it wasn't so far away. I had it done in Aberystwyth she then moved to Shrewsbury if I did get really bad again I would travel for it.

Hope you get sorted soon Mate

Bit of an update,

Now been off 3 weeks and seen physio twice (just got back from second visit) all seems to be getting better, but physio is the Devil in disguise, ache more now than I did before I went in.
Saying that day after first visit was painful but day after felt loads better, (no pain no gain)

Physio recons another month, and get doc to cert me for another 2 weeks, (work is paying so I'll go with his recomendations :D )

I just wish I could sleep the whole night in one go,

Mates are out on offroaders every weekend and I wanna play too.

Asda and Morrisons are getting well rich from me with their specials on 1 litre bottles of bells and barcardi

I've suffered on and off for years and was told the last time by the doc to just get on with it, apparently the doc recoms you can only cure it by moving about, pity it hurts so much in the process

dont take this as scaremongering ,but since my last reply my mother in law had assumed she had sciatica for a couple of weeks !!!! next thing she has been rushed into hospital (in a VERY bad way ) it ends up that after 4 days of blood transfusions etc etc she has blood cancer ....it had attacked her hip bone and made small holes all over the bone this has released a large amount of calcium which had caused lung and kidney failiure!!!!!! one of the signs of this condittion is pain in the hip area like sciatica !!!! :o BE CAREFUL

You have nothing to lose if you speak to an acupuncturist about pain blocking treatment, it's surprising what a good one can do

Find an independent one listed as a member of the British Acupuncture Council

Pain pills only work for a while ....
