and how to you relieve the symptons. Not been able to stand properly or walk more than 10 paces, have not had more than 2 hours sleep a night since thursday shooting pains from butt down right leg, which constantly aches hense the no sleep. If I take many more pain killers I'll rattle, Doc gave me super strong anti inflamation pills which seem to be doing something. but the leg aches constantly Weird thing is, I'm sorta starting to enjoy the pain. Any good idea's to relieve the pain, besides shooting myself, hitting the other leg to take mind of aching one, I eagerly await your reply's :( |

Hi Monty, i had sciatica for nearly 2 years, you have my sympathy. mine was cured by doing the following. every morning before anything else i would suspend myself from a Chin Up bar,all my weight being taken on my arms and let Gravity do the work of slowly stretching my spine in fact anything to suspend yourself would work ,(not by the neck )just hang on for as long as you can ,i cut back on meds ( reality comes back on line ) do every morning without fail ,should improve after 3 weeks Hope this helps you |

do you keep your wallet in your jeans back pocket on the bad side when sat down? common cause of it apparently i've suffered for over 7yrs down my right leg, sometomes butt pain, lowere leg pain, soetimes kinky tingling. at worst loss of feeling from knee down which is nightmare when driving as i can't feel brake/throttle pressure (sorry passengers) obviously this affect walking i've been to quack, osteopath, chiropractor chiropractor best for me once the nerves are activated thats it no cure, just coping with it yoga type stuff is good, get a dvd or watch youtube i actually need to stretch the sciatic nerve that goes from back thru bum muscle, through pelvis hole and down leg. the muscles wrap round the sciatic nerve stretching it allows it to 'give' easiest way when in pain, is to twice a day sit down on floor with back against wall for 10mins, over weeks move your bum further back to wall as your muscles get more supple another one is lie on back and pull bad knee up towards opposite shoulder, use hands to pull it and again hold it for 10mins twice daily i avoid standing still, so chatting at work, standing at bar, walking slowly round town (shopping) are triggers for pain i take Co-codamol which is strongest non-prescription painkiller. if i feel it coming then take em quick. this will allow you relax muscles and hopefully the scaitic nerve hth |

cheers Rob, the numb lower leg is freaking me out, just gave way going down stairs. No dont carry wallet in jeans Stumbled on the lay on back and hold leg bent, found helps a bit. worst is the throbbing in the lower leg, butt pain easing, but a sharp pain starts if I move incorrectly |

Erm ...think I posted this on previous forum. I had it something wicked ever since leaving the Army (when no longer in trim). Went to all the fancy medics etc. to no avail. Now that I´m really old (almost 80) `tis entirely CURED! Doc told me that the backbone is no longer flexible and therefore causes far less trouble. So ... you´ve just got to wait .... |

Our lass had it and took the doc/pills hossy/traction chiro/massage route with no long term success. Yoga cured it in the end. Theres some good books on pilates that have exercises that are injury specific |

Bio flow wrist strap, I had sciatica for years, had to get on hands and knees to put socks on, 3wks of wearing strap could do it standing up, 4 yrs later don't suffer any more, but then again it could be because I'm old now lol |

Cheers for all the advice lads. I like your style of thinking Patrick, (only another 28 yrs to go then). Yoga sounds like exercise, not sure if I like that, lol Had bad backs for years but nothing like the pain this gives. Will give all ideas a go, something has to help.

Monty I feel for you mate. TENs are great as Bighit said I love mine, pilates and yoga works too. Thats what they make me do in the military, can you imagine the stick I get  . There is a stretch, Sit on a chair and rest you feet opposite just a bit higher than your bum. Then once sorted keeping you back straight at first, bring your chin to your chest. This stretches the nerve, once happy slowly start to roll your back too ie Chin down then carry on rolling foward. It hurts at first but helped me no end. Other method is 30/500 codine and vodka  |
| If your not on the edge, your taking up too much room | |

Ive had it a couple of times, its ruddy horrible aint it. Starts in the ass cheeks an makes its way to me toes. My little left toe has been permanantly numb for a few years now. What i found best was ice packs on lower back, then lying on floor with me knees up to me chest. Not a pretty site cos i couldnt get me jeans on... Its wierd how such simple tasks cause so much pain when ya backs fooked, just washin me hands in bathroom was agony. An tryin to put socks on, not a chance. Think its just a waitin game, seems to go as quickly as it arrives. The best bit is watchin Top Gear on Dave all day long :D |
