I made an interesting discovery the other day regarding the dellorto phm 40 carb and dodgy tractor tickover/low rev problems. I've talked to people, read many books and articles on carburation and trawled the net round all the English speaking worlds bike forums that use the dell trying to find the answer.People get loads of advice but never seem to get sorted out.Well guys I know what its highly likely to be :D :D :D

When your messing around in the float bowl area changing jets or (and especially) adjusting your float level, if (via the floats) you put more than a midges pressure on the float needle,(even a brand new one) when it is closed theres a good chance it will develop a slight leak.
Symptoms are bad tickover, bad low rev running, stink of petrol, dire fuel economy, fuel screw having no effect, nothing having any effect and severe head injuries from endless head banging.

I can tell you guys your Rotax should tickover at a lovely low thumping rev and not miss a beat.If your suffering the problems above a new float needle and housing could well be your way forward, and be real careful with it. Lift the floats to adjust the metal tag for float level.

Needle and housing cost me 15 quid from eurocarb, its a 300 for the tractors

Good shout 🍻
Ive just replaced my floats, cleaned float needle by removal, running has been cack since! Last ditch to save the dellorto is gonna be a new float needle + housing then. If that fails i,ll start pestering members who have fitted mikuni vm44,s
