So my bike has a fancy master cylinder, it has the plastic res and a machined lever etc without any mirror mount, an ideas why this would be done? Doesnt seem to brake any better than my dads just looks B)

By the sounds of it it has a Brembo Radial Master Cylinder fitted,

Radial Master Cylinders are meant to give better feel as the actuator is more direct or 'radial' acting, and more braking power for less lever inout / pressure, providing its of the right spec...

Usually something like 16mm bore for 1x 4 Potter or 2x 2 potter...
19mm for 2x 4 potter or 2x 6 potter...

Some have other actuation adjustment, such as pivot distance... over just span/reach of lever.

It wont do much on it's own,it really needs a Caliper and disc upgrade to match,
I use 16mm (I think) plus Braking 4 pot and 320 wavy at the moment, but the Brembo
Mc has powered a Beringer system on my bike in the past as well.
As Paul says it gives you more feel, more scope to adjust the span should you wish to
just have a couple of mill travel before you plant your face into the road....
CCM 644,Kent cam,Braking wavy disc and 4pot caliper,Brembo radial m/c etc etc
