just spoke with me dad , he went down to a garage to see about getting his brakes replaced as he had an advisory on the recent mot.

the garage he went to has been there for years, i mean it was there when i was 12 as i passed it on the way to school.

anyway, he has a little corsa. disc on the front drum on the rear.

"garage bloke" im sorry sir we dont have the facility's to change drum brakes <insert jaw dropping the ground or fainting"

what the frig is the world coming to?
i told dad to get the pads etc and i will do it, as i have the facility's(jack, axle stand and socket set)

i wasnt sure if this should go in the joke section or not

The art of spannering is nearly dead!! :( :(
Lots of places won't do drums anymore. All they want to do is plug and play work now or easy fixes (which drums are).
Better to Burn out than Fade away!!

CCM R30 Carbon meets Cagiva V Raptor. Which 1 shall I ride today??!!

thats the thing though , drums are piss easy. so how can they change front discs and pads , but not shoes? maybe they are scared of those weird coiled metal bouncy things? (also know as springs)

i joke you not , we get heads in our place just to take the valves out so the garage can lap them in then once they have done that we get it back to put the valves and springs and collets back in .

we have a 1400cc corsa in just now that they did as above . we did the head a week ago . skimmed and pressure test. mechanic timed it wrong so they are footing the bill hence them lapping in the valves . one valve is bent but they still tried to lap it in . a monkey could have seen it was not straight and binned but oh no they tried to lap it in .

i f i had not checked them it would have gone back together and no compression in bowl 1 due to the bent valve so that would be the head off for the third time .

and how much did they save by lapping them in ? £36 POUND that includes removing and refitting plus cutting seats and facing valves if needed .

you would not believe your eyes when you see what mechanics send us .

we get" everything but the drivers " a head with manifolds ,turbos and so on still on it and they only want a skim . skim is £45 but to take the manifolds and so on off costs more and they moan cause you told them on the phone it was £45 . yeah for a BARE head ( camshafts and valves are ok but not "everything but the driver"

hard to find a good " mechanic" now , they are all fitters
