When I had my 404 it was poor plastic fitting esp. side panels, lack of inserts in panels, bolts split plastic, and just general poor build quality by modern standards...
CB500 Track Bike and also an Aprilia Shiver SL750

It's not that the seat is hard,it's just narrow and rounded and wedges up yer crack after a while riding.

Can you give us a bigger more powerful LC engine please, the 644 has had it's day
and the DRZ engine is a bit meh!
What happened to that Subaru built quad engine I heard about ages ago ?

Upgraded 4 pot calipers, preferably radially mounted industry standard these days, ditto radial master cylinder, progressive link rear suspension, not PDS this time please.

Better spec stainless exhaust system that doesn't rust !!! OR.....Titanium ta

That should keep you busy for a bit....lol
CCM 644,Kent cam,Braking wavy disc and 4pot caliper,Brembo radial m/c etc etc

is this a survey related to new model development?
in no order:

644 R30/DS for B-roads:
likes:
big headlight
great suspension
lightweight (compared to Jap motos)
style (but beginning to date compared to KTM 690)
long service intervals
some quality components
simple to work on
comes with 2 sets of wheels
dislikes:
poor wiring
fit of some panels
poor design on headlamp cowl
swingarm alignment issues
swingarm bearings
exhaust middle mount
airbox to carb rubber/carb access

404 for trail/enduro:
likes:
goes great
great suspension
corners well
runs in trail class on rallies
rack
some quality components
simple to work on
long service intervals
comes with 2 sets of wheels
dislikes:
weight, 15kg too much
swingarm alignment issues
swingarm bearings
exhaust middle mount
concave air filter traps too much mud and water puddles in it

if you're looking for markets to fill then i reckon >600cc thumpers/twins in Moto and Overland/rally spec are going to be good sellers
look at 1200GS/XTZTenere/KTM950/690 sales
other one is the 'trail all day/occasional enduro race' thumper

i appreciate it depends on engine availability and development funds, in a recession :o

happy to give feedback on any prototypes you wanna lend me :D

Well more just a general survey as its good access to the guys that seem to use ccm's as intended for feedback and development is pretty much constant but keep your eyes open for a new model early next year. Cant disclose anythin specific but i think you should all like it

the ccm was not on my radar till a guy on the TBM forum got a sexy looking black r30 ( cupid stunt is the guys username on here ) and i fell in love with it . cupid answers loads of my questions and i settled on the 404ds. but there was none for sale round here but there was a 604 and two 644's. i went for the silver 644 as it came with supermoto and trail wheels and the other two did not .

i was looking for a bike that would easily go 200 miles at motorway speeds and also have supermoto and trail wheels . the idea was to leave the trail wheels at my mums (200 miles away ) . i would then use the sm wheels all week to work and every so often i would travel to my mums and swap the wheels over and put the trail ones on and go out trail riding with my mates back at my mums . then on the day i come home i would put the sm wheels back on then pop home . there was not many other bikes that fitted that criteria other than say a 600/660xt if i had bought another set of wheels but the ccm looked better in my eyes as i liked the WP shocks and fork as like on the KTM bikes . i nearly bought a 640 KTM but i was beaten to it by a day , but too many KTBoom stories .

a newer tech engine would be better as the freewind one is i believe the lowest tech suzuki engine at the time in its cc size . yeah ok most engine parts fit current engines but its still pretty old tech .

just the general things that people listed above for example the seat . i hear the KTM seats are just as bad .

if the new design bike had another bike in common for parts ,for example you could fit KTM parts on like bigger fuel tanks and not one that is only made for CCM like it just now .

rear shock fixing at the bottom needs to be a better design . i have had one snap at the bottom as has some others . the carb access as rob110 mentioned . unless your a midget Japanese lady you need to strip the whole rear end off just to get to the carb and a complete pain in the arse to get back on .

a glass lensed h4 bulb headlight would be better than the candle that is fitted now . maybe a 12v accessory socket for gps users ( i have fitted one to my bike . just drilled a large hole in the headlight holder at the side and fitted a socket) and a factory pannier rack frame as i would love to fit panniers for long distance.

try to stick with B roads but i'll go anywhere on it.

i like that fact i have a british make of bike and that is the reason i got the bike, i would like to see a proper CCM engine in there though? or at least a british one.
if you could design it so the carbs where on the front and the zorst came straight out the rear with no silly bends that would free up all the power you could want.

keep it simple.. ok we lack power to the KTM's and bergs but i like our long service times and the fact i can work on the bike without a masters degree, although it would be nice to know you can tune the balls out of it so we can see CCM back in racing?

no V engines like the aprillia ... a SM is a big thumping single!

better electrics please.

a different swing arm so the chain isnt so close? maybe even so you can get a 5" rim

i would much rather see CCM throw money at making a lighter and more usable bike than a more powerfull one. cutting the unsprung weight with decent wheels (talon hubs again please), lighter brake discs and 4 pot on the front and stuff like that, up to date FCR carbs, better quality zorst system.

maybe a new model like the GS and tiger?

if you want my seat design its in my project thread :) .. no charge

R30, B & C roads

Love everything, simple to tune,

My electrics are fine once I worked my magic on it (sparky by trade)

simple to service, looks good. hardly anyone knows what it is.

annoys the power rangers

good suspension and brakes,

bad bits, stop the apprentice painting the tail pods on a friday afternoon, look good till the paint flakes off.

Rotax DS,

Green lanes, love it, does what it says on the tin, mates KTM hates it. drowns it when playing in the wet bits

Rides like a auto, bung in third and putter or thrash.

down side is its a tad heavy,
If it aint sharp I can play with it

Give the 644DS the comfort and build quality of an XT 600 Tenere 1VJ and it would be perfect B)

For commercial reasons i think a R30 update would be the way forward, i love mine and agree with all the positive and negative aspects of ownership outlined in previous posts.

Personally i would like a more tuneable engine, something water cooled with parts readily available like the Yam XTZ motor.

404

likes:
- design (compared to DRZ)
- weight (compared to DRZ)
- tractor engine
- handling

dislikes:
- poor build quality
- plastic fitting
- air filter (dirt falls in)
- WORST thing --> screw bushes in tank. That would be a reason not to buy another CCM if there would be a new enduro. Have 4 tanks and all have the problem...
