Should I get one? - 604e supermoto

This is my first post here! I’m looking to get a supermoto this year to replace my Fazer 1000. I’m looking to spend around £2k’ish and am looking at KTM LC4’s and CCM 604’s.

I’ve ridden a 604 in the past as my brother had one for a while but was wondering what the reliability of the rotax motor is like (the one I’m thinking of having a look at has had an engine rebuild but only covered 7k miles – should I walk away?)

I’m also worried about what spares are available for other bits, like bodywork, just in case?

I want to commute on it (only few miles each way) and weekend blasts.

Any thoughts much appreciated!

Nothing wrong with the rotax engine, They can be low on compression, but head comes off easy and lap the valves in and your away, no head gasket just 3 O rings.

I've had many in bits and the bores are always spot on. They do sound noisy, so dont let that put you off.

Ask what works been done if sound dubious walk away.

Can be tuned more than the suzuki engine, just change oil regularly and if not sure the cam belt as well.

Engine parts are still availiable new, and plastics easy to get,

KTM used these engines,

cheap and reliable moto if looked after.
If it aint sharp I can play with it

It looks nice enough, Bit of time spent detailing it. If it had the R30 headers or a full scorpion exhaust and was a 636, It may tempt me for around 1800

Its a lot of money, just as good can be got for well under 2k, You may also for the money get one with both sets of wheels.

Forgot to say, the sprag is the only real issue with the rotax, I always start mine using the decomp, they all have one, some have the lever on the bars, tho many dont like mine, the lever is on the front tappet cover on left side under the tank.

This is only my opinion. and no one elses. other may disagree and say its a bargain. check out the online auction to get an idea of what they sell for and general condition.

this is more the price 160772334387

or this 200726900189

Thanks for the ideas. I'll keep looking!

I'm more into the styling of the 604. For some reason I just don't like the looks of the r30

Also can you tell me a bit about the Suzuki 644 engine. There's a few of these about - I've only ridden the rotax one which was awesome - very quick and felt very raw, only ticking over when warm etc... Is the Suzuki engine'd one going to feel as quick and give me the same smile. I don't want to end up having a ccm badged 'freewind'

The 644 is a good motor, but like you said I think it's a bit more civilised and not as raw as the rotax.

Unfortunatly the 644's are notorious for having gearbox issues as well, although there are pletny about which have never had any issues.

I really liked my 644, but having ridden with a few rotax engined CCM's I can confirm the Rotax is more powerful. The only bonus with the 644 is that being a Suzuki engine parts are very easy to get and they don't require as much maintenance. The base gaskets are a know issue as well.

If I were to buy another one I think I would go for a Rotax, purley because I have had the Suzuki and like to try new things.

You can't go wrong with either bike, you can get a few more ponies out of the Rotax, but the Suzuki will see 50bhp with the right mods.

They are certainly not a rebadged freewind :D
