Paul the 2030 I think denotes the size, ie 20 is 20mm dia and the 30 is the length, they will fit straight in, and have room for the o rings, tho I'd source some seals instead.
If it aint sharp I can play with it

Did mine this morning, the old bearings were OK but dry as anything and just starting to rust, so looks like I caught them just at the right time.

I too struggled to get the swing arm out but sussed it for putting it back in by sticking a small bottle jack between the frame just below the swing arm position, I was able to spread the frame rails just enough to pop it into place.

thats quite alot of compression on the oilite bushes, did you squeeze all the oil out? :D
Hi Rob

Just fitted my bushes and like Monty have found the tophats are a bit tight, I'm sure the would install with a little squeeze but I assume they should have a slight tolerance and be installed by hand. Is that correct?

it may just be a burr/lip on the tophat, or crud/corrosion on it, so needle file burr and oil/steelwool on crud
similarly try filing the corner of the bush to give the tophat a start

if not reemer/file/wet+dry the inside of the bush a tad. probably less than 0.1mm interference
you won't do a damage in doing this

as you say should be a push fit, so the top hat can rotate in the bush
the swingarm only rotates about 35degrees max

hth

cheers Guys..

excellent stuff..saved my day as my needle bearings are full of mud and rust...

update..I installed the swingarm today on my ccm644 ds 2004 and also needed to file the olite bush to accept the top hat..I cleaned the inside before installing the new bush too..never mind just some feedback for others..

not sure I did the right thing but as the inner spacer wasnt used due to no room I just used a washer as a spacer.between swing arm and outer frame mount holes..

strange idea on tightening it all up..one spindle with two nuts on each end!!!

That's not bad Russ as they are only a fixed bush. My R30 is still on the first set . I did the 404 twice as they have a harder life off road.

Right...im well pissed off now....the olites are fine...the cap insert is snug fit zero movement..but the spindle has lots of movement ..15.8mm spindle ..16mm cap insert so looks like spindle has worn...

Got to check the schematics as there is a gap between engine mount and inner swingarm...so olites exposed...do i use washers as spacers?...

Im about to get a big hammer...

you must have got the tolerances wrong, the top hats should be held rigid with the spindle and the oilites revolve around the top hat, its a black art to get them right with no side to side movement.washers as spacers are fine.

Its not a std spindle. someone has modded it,

If I can find my spare, I can mod it with grease nipples and do an exchange service
If it aint sharp I can play with it

Its basically holes drilled in shaft where bearings sit and a one end blocked off the other has a grease nipple..beyond my ability to fab and cheapest. Replacement shaft i can find so does two jobs hopefully..

I just gave it some thought, and the grease nipples are a total waste of time, any grease pumped in will only go between the top hat and the shaft. the grease needs to be between the top hat and the bush, so you would have to groove the outer of the top hat and drill holes in that too, for the grease to get to the bush

i think some swingers may not be 'true' alignment
so spindle goes through the top hat and is a tad off line,
so spindle wears in top hat and not moving in the Oilite, like it should

Tramp just pm'd these (nice find):
LME16UU Closed Linear Ball Bushing with Rubber Seals 16x26x36mm

Also Known As: KB16GUU KB1636PP MAM16WW LBE16UU
http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p690104/LME16UU+Closed+Linear+Ball+Bushing+with+Rubber+Seals+16x26x36mm/product_info.html

maybe better than Oilites and deffo better than crap needles and O-rings.
But water (jetwash) will get in those seals, just like wheel bearings

update...
got the above bushing and the top hat wont go in ? but the spindle [swing arm bar] will...bit of movement along the spindle but a nice tight fit in the swingarm.. ? dosent look like its very strong unlike a sealed wheel bearing which I think is what we all need/want..

so gonna probably use the new oilites that arrived too...got new tophats and they fit no different to old ones so the old oillites had worn ..

waiting on replacement spindle to see if my old one is worn...

feel free folks to give comments and feedback lol...
