if its not gel and your thinking of getting it recovered it would be very easy to put a slab of gel in there. paint came today and my seat foam, so started on the seat. borrowing a mates leccy carving knife tomz so i will get some pics of the 1st couple of stages :) |

right .. here we go : first off my foam is knackerd as my cover had a few rips in and water got in plus froze , anyway this 1st pic shows the knife 4inches deep, not so bad: ![]() 2nd pic shows the knife only 2.5 inches deep .. not so good: ![]() a cut through showing the depth: ![]() now in the 4th pic we have the seat pan .. very very curvy and not what i wanted to see: ![]() after seeing how curvy the pan is i needed to decide the best way forward. i want better seat but it would take yonks to try and sculpt those lines! so heres what i decided to do.. 1.cut out the section i want to replace 2.cut this in half to make it more manageable 3. cut the sections horizontally as close to the top of the curve as i can, then glue in place. so now i can still put new foam in but now i have a flat surface to work off. ![]() after the glue had set i started to trim the foam down further so i am flush with the top of the seat pan curve , this means i can get more new foam in there. ![]() tomorrow i will use the leccy knife on it and then smooth it over with a sander before putting the base layer of foam on. these are the new foams: base is a very firm rebond comfy layer (blue) is a med/firm open cell foam the thin foam will be a smoothing layer to make sure the seat doesnt look bumpy or lumpy ![]() i have a gel pad in post, this will be cut into the blue foam. anyway thats all for now .. sorry it was a bit long :) |

i got it all from here http://www.foamcushion.co.uk/ none of the foam was expensive .. i think i paid £3.50 ish for the top foam its all cut to what you ask for so i got two sheets of 1cm deep x 100cm long x 50cm wide :) |

ok , rebond and 1st layer glued properly:![]() and then shaped a little with the front a little wider to help get a more flater profile for the top of the seat : ![]() ![]() although i am waiting for my gel pad before i can finish the seat properly, i needed to do a rough top layer to see where i am. so bear in mind the original front section of the seat is not glued yet and the top layers are only lightly glued so they stayed in place enough for me to get some shape, but i can still easily remove them. ![]() so two things i can see already is the mid back needs sloping better and i need to make it stay wider a bit more. where you can the patch i stuck on .. this is the area that needs work: ![]() well thats about all i can do now till the pad comes through |

ok .. i re did the back half of the seat yesterday as that 1st try was shit .. but as i ordered more foam than i needed this was no problem :) so here is were i left it yesterday : ![]() then today my pad came through so i marked out the area mainly where me bum bones are and along the front too as i keep getting a numb willy :/ and i cut the gel pad to fit this area: ![]() i then cut and scooped out the foam till i had the pad flush with the seat, and then used the off cuts of the gel pad to fill in the front (the gel pad is very frigging sticky when cut open) : ![]() double checked everything looked right and was stuck down. then for the smoothing foam layer, i put one layer on then test fitted a spare cover i had to see if it would still fit. it doesnt it seems even making small adjustments makes a big difference so i then put another layer of smoothing foam on, if i have to get it re-covered it may aswell be as comfy as i can make it! im just letting the glue go off properly then i can finish trimming all the sides down, but other than that and re-covering its all done. ![]() ![]() the gel pad was a very good buy , the only thing im unsure about is if the blue foam is firm enough ... right now it feels very soft and im hoping this will change a little when it has a cover holding it in place. maybe a firm foam is needed instead of med-firm , still we shall see. i think without drastically changing the seat shape you dont have much room to play. another reason why i layed out the money for 18mm of medical grade gel pad :) when i finally find an upholsterer i will put up the finished product, i would like to get it done before i next goto weymouth to give it a proper run too. still thats all for now. |

"edit" i found someone just outside oxford and he now has my seat :) only down side is he's really busy so might not get done this week but he promised to have it back to me by next week, i also got a compliment on my shaping skills :) also cut/bonded and riveted the DS fender to the CDI tray so i can see about a test fit at the weekend, this also means im nearly ready for the respray too although i need the weather on side  |

I really like them gold spokeys mate. They'd look nice on mine ;) Did they come with your bike or were they a later addition? I've got cast but would love spoked. Seems like a right faff to swap em though. |

came on the bike , and you dont want mine as they have seen better days , scuffed and faded. my phone makes stuff look nice though lol. im looking at get some new wheels built up but all in good time.. its a fair whack of money to get brand new ones :/ i dont think its that bad to change from cast.. just a matter of getting the spacers isnt it? happy with my seat , but if i did it again i think a firm open cell foam would be better for the top layer, my seat is very soft although i did a straight 40 mile last night and didnt feel a thing :) |
