First off do yourself a favour and get some Haines float bowl screws, the originals are quite literally made of cheese and will almost undoubtably round off. Next up remove your seat and tank, remember to switch off your fuel tap to stop it leaking out everywhere. Drain both carbs, the screws are on the bottom of the carbs loosen them off and petrol will start to leak out so make sure to catch it in something(I used a bottle that id cut in half. Unattach throttle cable, choke cable and TPS sensor wiring, loosen clamps holding airbox to carbs and carbs to manifold(4 in total), with alot of struggling manouver carbs out of bike. ![]() With the carbs out you can also change the needles in the carb aswell as the jets. Now its time to unscrew those old float bowl screws, if youre lucky they come out without a problem, however if you do manage to round some off(quite likely) get a small pair of mole grips on the head of them and they should come out a bit easier. ![]() Ok, with the float bowls off the tallest jet is the Main Jet, the middle jet is the Choke Jet and the lowest one is the Pilot Jet. When reassembling your carbs make sure to fit your new float bowl screws, remember theyre only small and just need to be nipped up with a little bit of thread locker on them to secure them. ![]() Whack it all back together just the same way as you disasembled it but in reverse, make sure to route your cables in the correct paths, when you put your tank back on and switch the fuel tap back to ON sometimes the fuel wont run back to fill up the carbs instantly, if your bike wont start leave it 10mins giving the bike a shake every few mins, if it still wont start blow down the petrol breather pipe to preassurize the tank and all should be well. Just to note, it is actually possible to change the jets without removing the carbs from the bike, however with the standard screws they'll usually round off and leave you having to remove the carbs anyway, however with the haines screws you can fit an allen key in the space under the carbs to remove the float bowls without hassle. |
