Which cam????

Hi,

Just a quick question.
I own two CCM's (one standard R30 (as it left the factory untouched a little over 2k on the clock!) and one DS) one is tuned up somewhat so I'm currently swapping bits around

My question is in the R30 I have cam 670. The other bike has 865.

Which cam is the best in people's opinion. And which is most desirable? The bike will never be used off road and stay at a super moto.

Thanks
Craig :dirtbike:

the 865 for on road use, the 670 is the mx cam, They dont take long to change, so give it a try to see if you like it
If it aint sharp I can play with it

Thanks. Which do you prefer? Wonder why my R30 came with a mx cam ?

this was on a dyno earlier this year, both cams fitted in the same bike, i know people have said there is a difference, and i'm not disputing that, but this is how it looks on paper, so the choice is yours.
the earlier bikes came with the 670 and the later with the 865, although CCM may have had some 670's still around so that's not always the case.

if you do decide to swap them, you will either need to buy a cam puller, or make one, using a threaded bar, couple of nuts and a Massive socket, like a 40mm ish (i forget the size). the bike will have to be layed down too, and be very very careful not to bend the shim behind the oil seal

That dyno result is what i like! I have chanced from 865 to 670 as 670 is "safe cam". On ride i haven't feeled any difference on power.

I wouldn't be sure about that! My R30 was on its original belt and been sitting for years.

Before starting it I turned the engine over by hand with the cover off. Not even one turn of the crank made the belt snap ( snapped where the belt had sat tight around the crank pulley)

When I tried line the marks back up to fit a new belt I managed to get the piston and valves to touch.
This was literally with the piston at tdc and a set of valves wide open (they won't hit if the valves are on overlap) so I'd say the cam is "safe-ish" if the belt snapped the cam should stop itself pretty quick and stop on closed or overlap so it's a lottery if it would hit or not, I'd say at high rpm you would have a good chance of touching
