Hello there,
I had my old tractor running, come MoT day it decided to go weird on me.

I had this problem before which I thought I had found to be a dodgy fuse (one of the legs had broken so it occasionally opened), but it's come back.

Here is what happens,
turn on the ignition, neutral LED comes on about quarter bright and then dims to almost nothing. No lights camera action.
battery is brand spanking new YUASA. I can short the solenoid and it will start no problem. So plenty of juice in the battery.

I have tried systematically unplugging connectors one at a time, e.g. lights, horn and anything to see if any difference.
Could it be the little starter relay behind the light? It clicks and seems to work but lots of green electric slime around there.

I've ordered a new one anyway.

So to recap switch on, neutral light very dim, no electrics.
Last week it was fine, blasted thing.

any ideas?

Good connections on the battery terminals? As in the wires not frayed or cracked?

Also, check the fuse holder itself, as I had one that would work intermittently.

Thanks Gonzo, but I think I found it!

It is indeed the ignition relay. 99% sure.
I was just blindly looking and wiggling like one does when you don't know what you are doing.

I discovered that when I squeeze the body of the relay all is normal.
Then it will run, then the neutral light goes dim again, so turn her off and its dead.
Squeeze the relay and she works again.

I almost gave up.
So the moral of the story is, persevere and even if you don't have a clue you are more likely to stumble across it if you just keep going!

Checked relay and fuse holder. Both had seen a bit of weather (its a year round bike) but turned out to be relay. Squeezed and it came back to life. Lucky i carry spares of the little sods! Thanks to all

ACF 50 is great to use on electrics, especially if it's a year round bike
