Wish I knew who worked on it. His tools would be removed from him and a good hard slap across the chops! Ha ha

That is unbelievable. Must have been quite a bang. All that damage from a tiny bit of metal. Very bad news for you as these engines are becoming expensive, so I hear.

And as you said, lucky you weren't doing 70 on the motorway with other traffic around, which is the main thing

You aint gonna fix that with some JB weld and a big hammer.

I do have a tig welder lol. It was just a loud crack as the engine stopped dead. Then only tyre noise before I got the clutch in. My wife was going to go on it but thankfully I wanted to test it out first. Would have been worse for her

Bearing in mind what was wrong with the bike, I think you and your wife have both been extremely lucky. Much better a knacked engine than damage to either of you.

As you said it was a time bomb which could have gone off anytime.

My good god! That is frankly terrifying!

I've got a spare generator case if it's any good to you?

Personally I'd throw those cases away and chat Stevo604 up for a set of his... There's a NOS pair of Rotax cases on fleabay at the moment, but at £450 + post, it's a bit much...
I drink too much, I swear too much, I ride too fast and I crash too often.

It is a universal impossibility for me to leave my tools alone and my bikes standard. 'It must go faster!!'

Theres some mt500 cases on ebay. 50 quid right now.

Whoever built that is a moron. Hopefully it was a genuine accident.

Yet another example of excessive use of silicon sealants. I've seen this stuff inside too many engines. If you have to use it, pretend it is made of gold dust!
