While I was tracing an oil leak behind the timing cover I thought I'd have a look at the sprag as it was making some horrible noises on starting. After removing the sprag it looks fine ,no broken teeth on any cog behind the clutch cover. All the lobes look like new and are held in place. I have a new spring so I'll fit it while its out .Does it matter which way the sprag is fitted as I noticed 1 edge has groove cut outs in the rim? After removing the sprag I expected to be picking lobes up off the floor. I suppose I'll find out if it's fixed when it's running again. Thanks |

The groove cut outs are for the matching clip that fits after your sprag before the final circlip. If replacing the lobes in a used cage then you need to make sure they are the right way round as well. It only spins onecway and catches the other to start. Ive got a link to a decent how to if needed bud. Good luck |

Been busy at work so only just found what may be my sprag problem. I replaced the sprag spring using Cuz's method I was surprised at how loose it was.I noticed there wasn't a thrust washer fitted behind the locking washer on 27mm nut holding the gear in place. I found damage on the end of the needle cage & bearing bushing and marks on the end of the bushing where the lock washer had dug in I think it was fitted notch facing outwards and the locking washer did the damage . I checked the sprag cage can't see any metal shards in there , nothing major in the sump either. All new parts on order. Looks like the numpty who sorted it after my top pulley let go strikes again. "haven't worked on a rotax before mate ' didn't exactly fill me with confidence
