I bought a 604 R30 tachometer to my MT from eBay. It has white background, -and my MT's speedo has black background. Also it shows speed only to 70 mph... And with my 604 engine i might get faster. -So i decided to custom it a bit. This system works to all mechanical speedos. MT speedo has a plastic collar "welded" or glued so hard, i just cut speedo to 2 pieces. If your speedo has a metal collar, you can bend it's edges to get speedo glass off.. ![]() There's 2 screws at bottom too, take them off ![]() so i ended having these parts on my table ![]() Cable from front wheel spins and rotates a magnet in speedo. Speedo's needle is trying to catch that spinning force and with right resisting springload it shows your bikes speed. ![]() Now, if you know your speedo isn't showing correct speed, -like 70 mph when real speed is 75 mph or 65mph. You can correct this with adjusting springload. You can adjust springload with small pliers bending springs fastener or by chancing position of the needle. Using a powerdrill, connecting it to your cable (or with correct size nail straight to speedo), check what your speedo shows. Remember, drill has to spin counterclockwise. ![]() or ![]() If you decide to move needle, you have to remove it first. It's easy with 2 spoons. ![]() Now to my customizing... With my drill, speedo was showing speed of 50 kmh (btw, my speedo did show correct speed..). I removed needle and positioned it a bit more counterclockwise (to about 30 kmh) -> i got more space to max speed numbers. I printed a new white background, to which i cut holes to needle and to srews that hold background and odometer. Note: This correction of springload has no effect to odometer. It has nothing to do with that magnet and needle's springload. It's mechanically connected with cogwheels (i'm not sure about the word..) ![]() As MT's speedo is in a hole, i didn't have to worry about the looks of speedo housing. I just used crocodile tape :) ![]() and i got a new background look like this (note, max speed now 150 kmh...) ![]() Now i have to make a hole to fit rewcounter... I hope this helps someone, -and i'm sorry about my mispelling |
