Went for my first proper ride today on my R30 and my fears where realised, much pain.
I used to race moto x and enduro up until 2 years ago when I had to pack up due to bone on bone hip joints.Been putting off the inevitable hip replacements for as long as poss and hoped to get a few thrills on the R30.within 10 mins on the bike I was turning around and heading for home (well pi--ed off).stupid thing about it is since packing up racing I took up mountain biking (to keep my joints moving) and regularly race for 4+ hours without issue, but just can't sit on a motorbike without pain.Just spent loads of time and effort doing up my R30 rusty dog and it looks like it's gonna be gracing the pages of eBay.

That's a shame, i guess there no way to modify it to make it comfy?

I'm a 50 year old with lower lumbar (L1-L3) issues, had to give up canoeing, kayaking and mountain biking as they all had me in screaming agony but I can sit on that plank of a seat for hours on end :what:
It's a cruel world!

My mate is 52 and had a hip joint replacement in late summer 2013, he was back skiing some serious steep off piste that winter, does downhill mountain biking and grade 5 white water kayak...and he's a GP so should know what he's doing ????

Might be worth tucking that lovely R30 away in the shed for a bit :dirtbike:

I had a sit on kayak,gr8 fun but had to pack that up as well.looking to get back to enduro once I get my new hips, just got the R30 as a stop gap to play with, but hasn't gone to plan.my Dad had an fj1200 which left me in agony after a short ride, but I did a 14hour 108 mile cross country bike ride with no pain. The body is a strange thing.

Yup, it is indeed! Wine is my favoured 'medicine' and I'm pretty sure that it helps :drinks:

Sh1t, I used to have a FJ1200, wish I'd hung onto it....

Ride everywhere standing up?
I drink too much, I swear too much, I ride too fast and I crash too often.

It is a universal impossibility for me to leave my tools alone and my bikes standard. 'It must go faster!!'

Take the seat out and turn it into a trials style affair? That way you'd have to stand, may make the riding easier. It would appear that it's the angle and pressure on your hips that cause the pain, and I'm assuming you do a fair amount of standing on the pedals when out on yer MTB, so stands (pun intended) to reason that riding the R30 on yer feet would alleviate the aggro?

Had the same when I was about your age. It disappeared totally and permanently when I was almost 70. No probs (except for my fugly 644 Acerbis headlight), and am almost 80. So there´s hope at the end of ...
