It pays to get a wiring diagram, take the entire loom off the bike, unwrap it and go through the whole thing, replacing wires and repairing joints where necessary. Time consuming, borderline sanity-destroying work if you're not that way inclined, but by golly jingo does it pay dividends when back on the bike.

I've had 3 or 4 bikes where I've had no other option than to do exactly that.

Was also paid to essentially completely rewire a VS1400 Intruder after some complete bodge-artist f#%ked it up and it completely burnt out and fried the CDI. I popped over as 'it turns over, but I got no spark', took one look at the loom and nearly cried. So did the owner when he had to pay £300-odd for a USED CDI from the states...

My point being: if the loom looks that bad, get all the trauma out the way with at once. That way, you know it's sound and finding any remaining issues is a joy.

i use this bloke, when i made a new harness i used the superseal connectors, but he also does splash proof box connectors

be warned though, when you start mucking around with the wires you find one thing after another

I'm thinking I'll do a full rewire with an m-Unit, at some point in the future. Should simplify things quite a bit.

Good tip on the connectors, I'll bookmark that!
