Just tried the bike out for the first time and a bit underwhelmed.R30 644 with carb gubbins removed,150 main 27.5 pilot, needdle on 2nd clip from bottom, tps set,k&n air filter, straight through silencer.
Really hard to start(no matter what position choke is in).but once going dosn't sound to bad and rides OK up to full throttle, then it seems to hold back and won't rev out cleanly, almost feels like a rev limiter kicking in.just dosn't feel that pokey.Any ideas?

Notice any black smoke?

How fresh are the plugs? Caps? Leads?
What colour are the plugs when you take them out?

Fresh fuel?

Simple things, but easily overlooked.

Couldn't tell you as I've got a 604.

Reason I asked about black smoke is I thought you may have been running rich.

Also, thinking about it, have you checked your diaphragms for perishing or splits?
I may well be asking stupid questions, but I remain permanently suspicious and distrustful of CV carbs due to the amount I've had unending problems with in the past.

I had the same issue when I bought my ccm last year, would drive fine but at full throttle would pop and bang. After stripping the carbs down and chexking everything else it turned out to be the rev limiter.I came from owning sports bikes though and was probably being nieve jumping on a big single and expecting the same kind of performance.Cant fault the bike though, love it!!

aside from your problem, remember its only a 650 single.
if you want blistering +90mph performance or 'warp speed' sportsberk acceleration, you won't get it, you need more cylinders for that
they will eventually do 3 figure speeds but its not worth it
a modern 2litre diesel car will piss on you at +90mph

stick to twisty B roads and roundabouts, stuff everyone on those roads :)

I would check the TPS is set correctly and the fuel filter is clean also probably a stupid question but you did blank off the two vacuum hoses when you removed the carb gubbins ?

I have a 644DS and it done exactly the same after I spec'd it up to the same as you are using, I got it to run perfectly by keeping the airbox lid on so it was purely a mixture issue!
Lots of other things can cause this and there's some good advice on here.
Good luck.

Had a play with it again last night.3/4 to full throttle getting flames piping out of the tailpipe, double checked TPS put some 135 mains in and still the same, put air box lid on still the same.

I'm going through a similar scenario, missing at 3/4 to full.

when I have it sorted I'll let you know

TPS is right, fitted spare carbs, all the obvious stuff. waiting for a fuel / air ratio meter to arrive

If it aint sharp I can play with it

Have you checked the ignition plug under speedo that's where the fault on mine was.

Disconnected ignition switch and hard wired it temporarily, still the same.gonna check the relay, disconnect the rev counter and check earths next.side stand switch is removed and wires joined. One thing I did notice was very small sparks appearing on the header pipe when it was at 3/4 ish throttle and missing, very strange, they weren't jumping across to anywhere, just randomly appearing.Could have just been the cold atmosphere?.

Sounds odd! HT leads, coils and plug caps ok? If you are getting flames out the exhaust it may be that un-burnt or unignited fuel is getting there and then igniting causing a backfire so maybe even something simple like a plugcap breaking down under load?

My DS pops and bangs and shoots flames out the exhaust at full throttle but i just thought it was coz it a big mental single!!Lol.Mines has the big bore kit fitted,K&N no airbox lid, holes drilled in the box and jetted.Might have cam kit as well.I said in my post above that I thought there was a problem with mine and stripped it right down.It wasn't until I drove my brothers R30 that I realised it was the limiter....either that or both our bikes are fookt.

Looks like I found the problem, wiring faults, not sure which ones but there where a few dodgy plugs one of which was the kill/starter.took it up the road and seems just about spot on.

After reading over the last year all the faults people reporting I,m glad I splashed out and had a new wire harness made for my project, touch wood I.ll only have carb settings to sort out.

Think I'd be happier with a new harness, seems like I'm just chasing problems with this one
