now my Yamaha's 99% done (seats currently being recovered) ive been missing my old 644 r30, the fact i could have passengers, the growling of the big cc engine, the electric start, the full lighting kit with indicators, the ccm forum people.

im really really tempted at getting a ccm 604 ds..........i understand the sprag clutches can go, but £124 isnt too bad from sportax to replace, and belts £25. what else is there to look out for? i know the suzi stripped 5th gear etc. and lower shock eyelet issues. Does the 604 have the same issues?

realistically whats the performance difference between my old 644 and the 604, is there actually much more to be gained from purchasing the rotax?

dont get me wrong, i love the WR, its fast, light, cheap to buy bits for.

is anyone with a 604, stock or tuned going on the wales ride august time? id like to maybe pop up and have a swapsies of bikes? see what they feel like?

Thanks
Ross

The bottom shock mount seems to be a Suzuki issue i think. Dont know why but Rotax people never see it as a problem.
Theres more tuning scope for the Rotax but i dont think its cheap to do but that said it a very simple engine so make it breath better and your onto a winner. :dirtbike:

speaking from my experience I only got about 200 mile on my last ccm604e before it got wrecked in the crash and I was loving every bit of it.
before I bought it I had got a run on a ccm644 and it was not for me nice bike but not a Suzuki lover.then a mate of a mate has a r30m and give me a run and I was hooked.
If you buy one try an get as much history about it as you can and it has been well looked after.
my current 604 I bought was just needs mot the crank was knocking like a cement mixer when I started it up and lucky I had a spare engine sitting and now in the process of tarting it up.

You can try mine in wales, totally bog standard, no big bore, no head work, just set up real nice. I ride it of road like an auto, as it has so much torque once in 3rd or 4th it pulls from tick over to full chat with no effort.

Oh yes, the lower shock eyelet is also a prob with the rotax, I have 2 broke rear shocks in the shed,

I´ve tried both and still run my old 644. The Rotax pulls better from down under and the Suzuki is maybe a bit better at speed. My Rotax had a kick starter.

1. The Rotax on its own is a work of art (though is can have its issues - my next engine split/stripdown is near caused by a broken snapring between the gears :( )
2. The surround that CCM made is the best ever made for this engine. A real back-to-the-root bike: engine, carb(!), frame, wheels and trimmed with good suspension and brakes

Surely not an objective point of view. But who wants to ride a soulless bike you can see in the monthly bike press....
I have spent until now nearly the same on my 604/parts as I paid for - and regret not one single coin

Hope this makes your decision a bit easier :drinks:

Do it! The Rotax is near bombproof and a joy in its simplicity to work on. Not looked back once since buying mine. The noise from the 'race' can is so addictive you struggle not to hold it wide open everywhere.

As far as I'm aware, performance difference between 604 & 644 is pretty minimal.
I drink too much, I swear too much, I ride too fast and I crash too often.

It is a universal impossibility for me to leave my tools alone and my bikes standard. 'It must go faster!!'

It's no secret that im a rotax fan, been riding them for two and a bit years now with no complaints, low maintenance, lots of fun, very reliable.

The rotax is a good utilitarian engine, chosen by the MOD and military all over, it's also a race engine thousands still swear by for supermono, flat track and more, it can make 30hp or 90hp depending on whos fiddled with it .

Hoping to be there in aug too so you can also ride mine.

Don't forget, a rebore to 636 with piston is only about £350-ish from Sportax if my reading of build threads serves me, chuck in a decent exhaust system (more than likely hand-made unless you get lucky and find a Scorpion or R30 setup) and you've got summat that will pull yer arms off!
