It's an early CCM from the period when Alan Clews bought the remaining bikes and spares from the bankrupt BSA competition department, around 1970

It looks like it's not been messed around (except the clip-ons, etc) and as such is potentially worth a lot of money

B50 engine easy job to convert back to twin shock scrambler, that could fetch a LOT of money, very rare to see a B50 without broken fins or other damage

Don't let him try and start it without oil change and kick the engine over until oil returns to the tank.........the clutch plates will be stuck together so check each gear with the plug out

THEN SELL IT AS IS

Hey Whitebuck!

hes got all the orignal BSA parts and an old working engine (well in bits). Supposedly his dad had modified one of the engine mounts to fit the CCM engine as his dad used to take part in hillclimbs.

The idea was my friend wants to restore the BSA back to factory, put the original bits on then either keep or maybe sell..

As far as i know the CCM engine will then be binned, unless someone may be interested?

I'll ask for more detail, as his dads still alive we should be able to get a lot more, maybe some photo's. Would be nice to have some more CCM history on (even though the bikes BSA) :-)

Restoring to BSA is turning it into a BSA, it's a CCM, an early one but CCM none the less.....bloody criminal idea

Does my R30 having a badged Suzuki engine make it a Suzy?

Does a Metisse with a Triumph engine make it a Triumph?

That bike is so rare in that condition he's an idiot if he "restores" it

If he's going to ruin it, how does he want for it all now?

Ill second what buck says!!

very rare to see a piece of history in a raw un touched state - not to mention from CCM themselves lol

Leave it as a CCM - not very many of those around at all apart from videos on youtube when Alan was starting out

Just to add my two cents worth, i don't think it is a CCM, the engine is a 1972 / 1973 CCM but it looks as if its been fitted as a replacement for the BSA B50 engine or some other big single it also could be a 350cc which i belive CCM used in an early trials bike.
The reason i say this is the quality of the frame etc. Back in the 80's i was the proud owner of a 1973 CCM 500 motocross bike and the quality of the nickle plated frame was the best of any bike i have ever seen, (wish i still owned it as it would be worth a small fortune now) this bike is not in the same league. I would try and find some frame and engine numbers or maybe you have some paperwork that can shed some light on the bikes history. If it did turn out to be an orginal CCM leave well alone if not it will be a worthy project.
Sorry forgot to say the engine on its own being original CCM will be worth alot of money !!!

Sorry guys, i may have not been given enough information in my initial post. The bike was a stock BSA, His dad did the ccm engine conversion and some other touches himself manually. he said "BSA Victor 441" is the original engine hes got for it. He seems to think the CCM engine has been bored out quite a bit, and is running a non-standard piston. However, I'll update when ive got more facts. still looks an interesting resto project!

Believe so. My friends still getting the history from his dad. He's just looking to confirm chassis number as it's been painted over as it was used offroad for a few years purely for hill climbing.
