do ccm engines need to routinely rebuilt like ktms and the like.... my son and I are both looking for supermoto style bikes....hes after a xt660 and im more interested in a ccm.... reliability and easy maintenance is important to both of us as we never have the time for too much cheers all... |

cant comment on the rotax, but my old suzi 644 literally needed an oil change and oil filter every 6 thousand miles? compared to other supermoto bikes these need a lot less maintenance. rotax will probably be shorter intervals but they perform higher than the air cooled suzi 644's ive got a yamaha wr400, and this has the shortest intervals id like to deal with. hence i avoided ktm/honda etc. What i liked most about the CCM was the pure reliability it had. if i fancied a ride, id turn the fuel taps on, hop a leg over, hit the starter and go!

Rotax is generally no problem at all ... But as with ALL bikes, it depends on the previous owner. I'd say get one, give it a good engine service and then you'll be good for several thousand miles.... Service the rest of the bike aswell .... Where abouts are you? Someone might be able to meet and show u... Edited by motomaniac, Dec 10 2014, 03:57 PM.

One of the things that made buy my CCM was reading this forum, nobody thinks twice about taking any of the bike to bits and the help from members if you have a problem Personally I find my R30 very reliable and easy to service, getting some bits back where they came from can vary from a struggle to apparently impossible.... the carb to head rubbers are in that category But you have to remember this is a handmade motorcyclce, basically lights and a number plate on a race bike... Now is the time to buy a good example at a reasonable price, maybe buy a members bike, they come up for sale now and again |

I personally am a Rotax man. They may need things doing slightly more regularly than the Suzi, but the brain-out simplicity of it all is very refreshing! Air cooled, one carb, one cylinder, kick start, basic electrics... With your average under-the-seat toolkit you can near enough strip the bike to nothing by the side of the road. Can't say that about a KTM or the like! |

I drink too much, I swear too much, I ride too fast and I crash too often. It is a universal impossibility for me to leave my tools alone and my bikes standard. 'It must go faster!!' | |

i haven't had to actually service the Rotax any more frequently than the 644 i had, only difference is the service is a bit more involved, personally i would have a test ride on either bike to see which you like. the xt660 is ok, it's very fat though even in CCM terms and does not come with as good kit |

Either engine should serve you well but dont shy away from a Rotax through the endless misinformation spewed out from places like "bikechat forum" and the like who in turn get there info from reading other keyboard experts ideas when none of them have owned one. I rode my Rotax 50 miles every day(more or less) to work all last year rain or shine and the only real problem i had was a Pougeot estate car that killed it. Any one with half a brain can service a Rotax.......indeed you can service a Rotax even if you only have half a brain. Most of the cycle parts are the same between them apart from the differences caused by the left or right drive chain and the electrics. More power to be had from the Rotax but thats not to say the Suzuki is a dead loss....far from it. Trying my best not to be biased but i may have failed

Also, Ive ridden my rotax around a 1000 miles in 2 days, destroyed a back tyre in those 2 days, but I'd have had to do oil n filter changes 2/3 times with a husky/ ktboom/ berg etc.... Once I'd got a new tyre, I just kept riding for several more thousand miles.... |

Used mine (stock rotax) for nearly the last two years, everyday for work, 200 miles at a time long runs, racing, wheelies, backing it in best i can, green laning, rivers, ice, i have been knocked off by a nissan micra, a speed triple 1050, and fell off a few times because i ran out of talent. Changed the belt 3 times, oil maybe 4 times, filter 3 times, about 4 tyres, 2 chains. Never let me down. even my tuned bikes have been spot on. |
