i dread to think how many threads will pop up if you typed "painting tank" into the search box.

this is the most recent though : http://forum.ccmmad.co.uk/topic/7273756/1/#new

Thanks for that ...I'm only painting the top side andd not underneath ...
We use some expensive paint isolator at work so you don't get and reaction from the original finish then paint with what ever .......

The finish at the most looks liked faded/ worn silver plastic

Depends which tank... The big grey ones can't be painted really, the smaller ones can be,

hmmmm intermeresting , now we just need you to do it and let us know the results....with the ds tank, id like to know wether the dye comes out with the paint fumes that leach through the plastic or wether it stays dyed.... the r30 tanks, once the paints removed, should in theory be able to be dyed any colour...

Painting is a waste of time no matter how expensive the isolated is.
The video looks interesting but if you read the comments the only person
to have success is the guy in the video.

lend me a DS tank then :poke: haha

Ive got to admit it looks tempting, almost worth buying a second tank and trying it

I've done some more reading on the KTM and Yamaha forums and found that people have varying results.

Some leave it overnight and it works, other leave it a few days and only get a grey finish.

I can see how it works, however surely the way it dyes the tank is just using the permeable characteristics of the tank for the dye to cling to then as soon as the fumes come through surely washing the dye out?

I'll keep an eye out for a second hand tank lol

i wtched a couple of vids of radio controlled car petrol tanks, 2 of them, both with different results, neither turned black though.... it would depend on the base colour as to how dark it went i reckon...

Think I'll leave it for now lol , thought it would be a case of getting a good key for a plastic primer/ isolator to stick to

Let us know how you get on if you decide to give it a go although it might not take going grey to yellow might be better other way round grey may be to dark to cover in a lighter colour
