Went to go a blast today, pulled the bike out and pressed the start button but nothing😞.Ignition light on,all lights indicators etc working but bike wouldn't turn over. After stripping it apart and getting nowhere I decided to just bridge the start relay to see what would happen and the bike tried to start(battery going flat).Tried with the button again and it tried to start?!Is the start relay bad for sticking or failing? The bike hasn't been started for a few months. The battery is totally dead so Ive got it on charge. The button seemed to work then wouldn't work?!

644?

yup starter relay probably

bad connection
green terminals
clean and refit

if not swap it with the one next to it, as thats sidestand relay (most bypass sidestand switch, so its spare)
on a R30 the headlight relay is same too, so its easy to swap and see if headlight still works

I thought the 2 small relays were ignition and side stand. The start relay I'm on about is where the battery lead screws into a terminal and another lead comes off and goes to the starter.

oh um yeah quite right

i've not heard of any failing, but if you bridged it and the bike wanted to start then it would suggest the starter rely
clean terminals and charge battery and it'll probably work :D

Be careful as the starter solenoid also has the feed for the fuse box going through it, via the fuse
If it aint sharp I can play with it

Thanks for all your replies guys😉.Had the battery charging over night, came home from work and boom...started no problem. Was getting 14.5v when running, hopefully the battery will be ok along with the start solenoid.Ive had bike batteries go flat before and it killed them:-(.Is there anyway to check a battery is good, what should the volts drop to on start up?

just take a reading off the battery when charged, should be 12.5ish
measure it again next day, see what the drop is then if any

i use one of them £10 solar trickle chargers on the 644 over winter
better to keep the battery trickling over than just stood unused
