What length of chain would I need to return my dual sport back to its original gearing of 14/43?

I've seen a few chains on eBay but most come with a split link,a rivet link is still always used on a ccm surely?

Split link or rivet shouldn't make any difference. When new mine came with a rivet but the owners manual shows a split link. It's just a CCM thing !

generally , Rotax - 520 chain = split link
644 - 525 chain = rivet

disagree
Rivet link is better, its a permanent link if peined over properly

Split link clips are thin sprung steel that wears on the swingarm rubber and chainguard
then they go loose and come off, especially offroading

DID generally supply a rivet link with a 520 or 525 chain
they used to supply a split link and rivet, but guess cutbacks, seem to only get the rivet

I totally agree with your logic. But the original chain on my 604 snapped when I gave it some away from lights and it was the rivet link that went. After that I just find more piece of mind that I can see the plate on the split link. Horses for courses!

I always felt that a rivet link was a must for a motorbike due to the speed at which the chain whirls round, vibration and stress that is put on them that a split link would be a bit 'unsafe'.I did do a track day on my fireblade with a split link hit only because I couldn't get a chain riveter that morning😝

For those of us who are old enough, back in the 70s and 80s everything from fizzies to Kwaka z1300 run split links with no problems.

yeah but Roadster, if everything was great from the 70s/80s we'd still be riding Z13s and fizzies ;)
your old Trim phone was fine then, so why do we bother with modern mobiles?
if summat better/more secure has come along, it makes sense to use it?

And Roadster Im pretty sure a Z13 had shaft drive. But the cam chain........oh no that was a endless chain (rivet link).
I think there is nothing wrong with a spring link if fitted correctly for the road but if using offroad maybe a properly hammered on rivet link is better but only if done correctly as its easy to cock them up making them to tight.
