Hi

The oil feed pipes on my 644DS are rusty. so started brushing and sanding them back to metal. Was gonna do some spray under coat and a coat of black. (not on the braided part though)

Any one else done the same?

Thanks

i'd be lying if i said i didnt do that :)

Whats the correct way of painting stuff like this?

1) take back to metal
2) primer
3) flat with mega fine paper (what grit rating?)
4) spray with final colour
5) flat again
6) spray again
7) lacquer?

Halfords do a high temperature engine paint. I painted my oil lines on my bandit with it. It`s good stuff and dries without any brush marks, maybe worth a look.

Rub down 240 grade remove all rust (If you have a Dremel with a copper wire brush it will remove rust if pitted) use panel wipe then ETCH primer ,Upol is a good starting point 2-3 coats a very light rub with 1200 will smooth it down ready for top coat satin black top coat (LACQUER ON TOP IF YOU WANT GLOSSY FINISH) You do not need heat proof paint.I personally put at least 4 colour coats on. Once primer rubbed down no need to sand between coats its a oil pipe not a Rolls Royce but its up to you , mine will only get rubbed down if there is something wrong.
