the only place oil would pass would be valve stem oil seals or past the rings as you said do a compression check first. :chin:

It may be over fueling. as Cuz said, dirty airfilter, is the smoke black or white, black would indicate rich, white would be burnt oil

bike was still smoking after air filter check. lead a ride to llanidloes stayed at a bunk house on the way home came off on grass but hyper extended my knee. so i hit the bricks all the way home from pains castle. got a few miles from home engine went low on power i thought about it while still riding and doing a sort of diognostic then i stopped pulled in the clutch and the bike stopped . it was hot as i would expect so i let it cool down thinking oil in the back of my mind . i didnt want to get involved on the side of the road(leg throbbing) so i phoned the wife and she brought the van to me. only looked at the bike the other day it started first time so i shut it off. drained the oil from frame and sump and i only had around half a liter in the bike . filled the bike up with oil started easy runs revs and ticks over , but i havent ridden it because of my leg. i am thinking take off the head replace valve stem seals and should i check the oil wiper ring . what else should i check. if the valve guides are worn can that be checked . also has anyone else done the same to there knee , how long does it take to clear up . its getting better all the time but 4 weeks now @&%$!"

There was a chap selling a complete set of rings for the rotax on the bay several weeks ago for £45. stem seals are cheap and can be bought from Gary at sportax racing, as he bought all the stock and good will from apothis parts. he may even have the rings.

Ref the knee, My cruciate ligament has been snapped for 15 yrs+, sounded like a gun shot when it went during a mx race. docs then could not be arsed, recent knee op to sort out locking knee confirmed it had snapped. get a good knee support and cycle every day, this will hurt like hell till it warms up, but it will get better.

Not good! But not the end of the world either! At least you know why it was smoking now..

The cylinder can be repaired and replated. . You'll need a new piston though and a few bits and peices to put it all back together. Let me know what you need and ill work out a price for you..

That's not looking very well Gareth

best remove the gauze filter from underneath and recover the missing ring bits

Another 636 possibly, as barrel and piston need plating and replacing.
