Hi to all Forum Members. My name is Pete from Edinburgh Scotland and I've recently joined the happy?? throng of CCM Owners I always liked the look of them but did not want to shell out the asking price for a newer one as I was more interested in having a good road bike However with prices now falling and an R30 coming up for sale locally I decided it was time to invest So far I've been really impressed ...the grin factor is awesome. "Hooligan Machine" is the most common expression I've heard I've decided to do a full restoration and again apart from the plastics and the paint I've been really impressed with the quality of components used and the liberal use of stainless steel and alloy rather than mild (rusty) steel of japanese bikes I've worked on before. Shame they did not stainless spoke nipples as most of them seem to have lots of corrosion which spoils the aweseome German rims In the middle of strip down and another R30 appeared for sale - so I bought it too !! (So I could use it while the original was off the road) Neither bike seems to have any of the common issues (5th gear / bottom gasket / rear shock seized / exhaust brackets snapped) so hopefully will be OK I've posted some pics of the restoration in progress on my blog site - as I know lots of folk are usually interested to see this sort of thing http://classicsecosse.wordpress.com/ccm-r30/ Any questions give me a shout - and hopefully someone will reciprocate in the future if I need help Cheers for Now Pete |
