The DRZ engine will leak oil from behind the front sprocket if you ride offroad, as crap behind the sprocket causes corrosion on the shaft spacer/collar. It first happened after a few months of riding mine offroad and just recently again after another 3yrs. Symptom is oil dripping from the sprocket, or worse gushing and covering the sump/swingarm, as happened last weekend :( luckily my friend spotted it before it was terminal. I only got 700ml of oil out of sump/filter/frame :( Fix is simple: Chain off sprocket off, 30mm nut. I sit on the bike with the rear brake on hard and undo with a torque wrench undo seal retainer, two no2 Pozi CSK screws, tight so use impact driver! prize oil seal out or carefully drill 2mm hole and put a screw in, and lever out with claw hammer ;) ![]() slide collar/spacer off, it'll be corroded and stipped seal from all the mud/crud clean shaft etc ![]() fit new oil seal no23 (i looked for cheaper, but theyre not as deep or double lipped). I gently use a scaffold tube/mallet to tap it in 'square' NB: from Pampera: Might be worth mentioning that there's a high-pressure oil feed via a little hole in the crankcase which must not be obscured by the seal (see page 115 of the Clymer manual). SO DON'T PUSH THE SEAL IN ALL THE WAY, just flush with the case. http://www.hainesmc.co.uk/ccm_motorcycle_spares/ccm_404_spares/ccm_404_genuine_parts_catalogue/ccm_404_genuine_engine_spares/ccm_404_transmission/ ![]() fit new O-ring no41 into spacer/collar made from STAINLESS £20, crappy Suzuki one is nearly same price! http://www.hainesmc.co.uk/ccm_motorcycle_spares/ccm_404_spares/404_performance_upgrades_and_accessories/ ![]() fit new spacer/collar onto shaft refit retainer/screws fit new lock tab, only £1.39, why risk sprocket nut loss! then sprocket and nut, so they push the spacer/collar fully in and doesn't blow out under oil pressure start bike and check for leaks tighten sprocket and torque to 95nm, bend lock washer tabs over warm up and check oil hth Edited by Rob 110, Nov 30 2013, 05:59 PM.
