Its a carbon air duct which directs air onto the disk to help with cooling.

Had a good run out today and can report that the bike runs really well with the K&N filter. I know that other owners have reported problems when using the K&N and others have had problems when the airbox has been cut or altered but mine pulls like a train. I am am using 150 main and 25 pilot jets.

I have used K&N filters on many different bikes over the years, both twins and four cyclinder, but never on a single before. The only time I have ever had any problems is when fitting to a 2 stroke machine with expansion pipes, real bugger to set up. I would imagine that if you have a DS and use it off road you might have some problems but an R30 on the road runs really well and as you say looks much better.

All thats left to do now is list my airbox on ebay as I certainly won't be needing it anymore.

when you get a chance can you post up some pics of how you have repositioned the electrics/battery.. cheers (what the needle clips on and would air mixture screw still be 2 1/2 out?)

so far i've messed with needle settings and lid off and running same jets as you .. and apart from serious popping and banging (only on closed throttle) havent had any issues .. dropping needle clip to lowest - lid off and tickover about 1750/2000 (very erratic depending on temp of engine) thats been reduced a tad ...

It's in Bike Chat in the CCM Riders section, under 644 R30 DS Air Box Removal Mod ...... I was looking at it last week

The bike looks great ..... taking the air box out really opens the bike up ...... good to know it can be done and run well, thanks

Congrats on a job well done

I went for the enviromentally friendly sustainable stand option. The lawn was fine when I went into the shed.

The carbon exhaust guard, hugger, oil cooler scoop, front mudguard, fork protectors, disc air vent and front sprocket cover are all from Pro-Carbon who are based in Czech Republic. A little expensive but really good quality. If your order total is over £150.00 you avoid the £35.00 postage charge.

Pro-Carbon

The carbon front exhaust guard and clutch cover plate were made by me.
