Hi folks,

Very new to the world of both forums and 604's and hoping that someone can clear the haze on this question for me.

Got me a 1999 604 a couple of weeks back and loving it. Not been on the road for over a year and it's a joy. I boughtit with only trail wheels and, lovely as they are until you see a corner, I'd love some smoto ones for both better road usage and too make it just a tad easier to get on an off!

The question I have, and I've googled the arse out of it, is WHAT wheels of other ccm's would fit? Some on ebay currently from 644's, r30s etc but will any of these fit, can they be made to fit etc.

Sure it's never going to be that straight forward but if anyone should have a little reference guide I'd be a very happy chap.

Cheers,

644's/R30s will fit. spin the rear wheel round. you need to play about with spacers on the front.
also if you have the cabled speedo you will need the speedo drive for the SM wheels.

i think the 404 wheels fit aswell but need a bearing swap though not 100%

644 wheels will fit straight in, as long as you have WP forks, the rear will just need the sprocket changed to a 520 from a 525, spacers are the same. fits other way round so if tyre is dirrectional will need changeing round

404 will fit but new bearings and a spacer will need getting as spindle sizes are different
If it aint sharp I can play with it

Although in theory a 644 rear wheel will slot straight, when i bought a pair for my 604, I bolted it up and it would barely turn as the brake was binding. Turned out the wheel was just a tad out of line.

Cured by fitting one 604 spacer and one 644 spacer.

As I change between wheels frequently, I have stamped "604 Left", "644 Right" into the relevant spacers to make it a no brainer.

Also if changing to SM wheels with a larger front disc, you will need a different carrier for the front disc.

Trail = 260mm disc, Super Moto = 320mm disc

And you might want to consider changing the gearing, I run 15/44 on trail wheels and 16/44 on Super moto (although many run 17/44), you don't have to change but It will scream it's nuts off on Trail gearing and SM wheels.

Im using the 404 -17 inch wheels on my R30, replaced the wheel bearings to suit original spindles. The front wheel inner wheel (hub) spacer i didn't need to change for some reason the original 604 spindle went straight through. The rear wheel inner (hub) spacer was the same spindle went straight through I had to add a 1 - 1.2 mm washer plus spacer to the disc side just little bit of play.Been running on these for 18 months with no problems
