water woes

I was out riding yesterday in the snow and rain!! after riding through continous deep puddles the 604 spluttered and died. it fired up again but struggled until i was clear of the water. it has refused to start before after i have jet washed it aswell.

Clearly the water is getting in somewhere, i dont think it is the HT leads tracking although it is a possibility. it sounded more like water in the fuel mixture.

Does anyone know the most likely place or indeed suffered similar. is it via the air filter?

Thanks

Craig

if you have the holes in the side of the air box then thats the most likely cause

No holes,

Only the drain hole in the bottom. it is a K&N filter, would more filter spray help?

Monty,

You know what is coming next, yep another daft question.

Any particular make, model, size etc of plug cap? i have been bitten before getting bits for the old girl only to find they didnt quite fit.

I can see a little of the porcelain white area of the plug when the cap is fitted, so perhaps water is getting in and interfering?

no!
never put more filter oil on a k&n, and it strangles it. check their website for the exact amount to use, iirc about 15ml

k&n filters pass air badly when wet, unlike foam filters

as others say check the sparks
i use this on all electrical bike contacts, inc plug cap, tube lasts years
