rob, if cr 500 forks fit so will the WP forks of a CCM, as I have them fitted on my CR, the WP's slipped right in the yokes perfect.

If it aint sharp I can play with it

but Translap and early CR/XR are conventionals
late CR and WP upside down

i checked on what head bearings were the same, to keep it simples

you can get a stem for £80 that accepts WP upsides and yokes, but that plus WPs/yokes, plus wheel =£s

wheras this lot all goes in for £100

@ jonny, yeah she loves me

whats happening with the 404 if your doing the big bike rallys then?
its staying
on some of the rallies i was on the limiter in 5th for half a mile stretches
it is great at em, but thats the only problem, sometimes lacking in oomph up 4th/5th gear hills
gearing it up wouldn't help, tried it, ruins the bike elsewhere

the translap will make more power higher up hopefully
the one i had 20yrs ago (!!!) would cruise at 95mph all day long and do 110ish
i'll probably drop a tooth on the front as i can afford to lose 5mph off top end and have a more useable slow speed 1st

i just fancied a go with a twin cylinder bike, esp as i can 'ride' a bit now
i'm worried about the weight, especially as it carries it high up

also there was general talk among some of the event organisers and many riders that the rallies had gone a bit too 'enduro'
flippin lightweights! most people ride enduro bikes, so shouldn't be struggling on these events

so the events may be a bit easier, ie less 'offroad/single track' and more firebreaks, suiting bigger bikes
theres 10 events planned this year, so i can always switch bike
i only did 3 events from 7 last year and still came 3rd in class overall (3 class wins from each event), but other riders did more events

at £800 i can't lose much, some people were paying £6-900 on non-runners/dogs!

@Monty yup 1990 saw USD come on CRs, so you had it easy
i may go down the WP route if these shocks don't run well. i found em fine on my old XR6

ta
don't really like em as short ones can get crap stuck under and ruin the chrome
i'd never fit em to a bike with USD guards

but full length look better than 'gay'tors on conventional forks
theyre clamped at the bottom and run right to the bottom yolk, where i've put a jubilee too, so crap should stay out
couldn't get fork guards to work with the fairing setup :(

You have too much spare time obviously, Damn quick rebuild that. I'll bring a couple of bike over for you to finish for me.

Looking a nice job mate, guess you filled your time building it when the snow was about
If it aint sharp I can play with it

Rob

Your shed must be warmer than my garage, I haven't really managed much work on the Tractor to get it ready for the Brechfa and I'm only doing a service and a bit of tidying up, you've built a whole Rally Alp :chin:

This was mine as of yesterday....

Posted Image

I have managed some stuff, I've wired in a new fuse holder to cure the intermittent cutting out I have been suffering all year (finally found out the holder had been squashed by the forks on full lock)!

Replaced rear wheel bearings

Cleaned and oiled the air filter

But......

At the moment both brake light switches are u/s and need replacing,

Cam belt needs replacing

Oil change and filter needed

Tappets need checking

Headlight bulb has fallen apart

But apart from that it's "Ready to Race"

Oh well at least the sun is out today B)
